Hong Kong Rly Requisition No. 129

Referring to our letter of the 27th June concerning asbestos cement sheets supplied under the above Requisition, we enclose for your information a copy of the results of the teste carried out upon the samples returned by the Hong Kong Government and also upon a sample of Lammit sheeting also sent to us from Hong Kong.

From these tests it is evident that the sheeting supplied is inferior to the Lammit sheeting specified.

In view of the conditions of contract and the guarantee given in the letter to you from the British Corrugations Ltd, of the 26th March we must hold you liable.

We shall be glad to know at an early date what

steps you propose to take in the matter.

In reply to yours of the 15th instant referring to your previous letter of October 6th 1917; we have been waiting

to hear what the makers of the "Lammet" sheeting had to say, but regret we have heard nothing from them.

You are aware that "Lammet" Sheeting could not, owing

to the War, be obtained, so we precured what we understood was the nearest and samples were submitted to the Engineer who approved that made by The Britsh Corrugation Co. and we there- fore ordered it from them.

After manufacture it was examined and passed by your Inspector, and delivered f.o.b. steamer who gave clean Bills of Lading and we take it our contract ended there, as we had nothing to do with the shipping.

We have not sufficient knowledge of this sheeting to express any opinion on the analysis, and we merely bought it where told, and it was not our suggestion that asbestos
